A Call to Worship
Pentecost 2B [Ordinary 10B] or [Proper 5B] 2012
Psalm 138

O Lord our God, we come together with songs of praise
in our hearts, because of your unfailing love and faithfulness.
Even though we struggle with life’s issues, your mercy blesses us.

Listening God, we come together with prayers of thanks
in our hearts, because you hear and answer our prayers.
Even though life is sometimes difficult, your strength blesses us.

Welcoming God, we come together in reverent worship
filling our minds, because your faithful love endures forever.
Even though we are fragile people who sometimes feel lost,
and abandoned, God’s love blesses us and never changes.
Thanks and praise be to our glorious God for ever and ever. Amen.

Prayers of Praise and Trust
Pentecost 2B [Ordinary 10B] or [Proper 5B] 2012
Psalm 138

Holy God, you are the God above and beyond all things!
With trust, hope and humility in our hearts and minds, we
gather to praise and worship you, the God who always hears
and answers our prayers. God’s promises are trustworthy
and honourable, and so with thankful hearts and minds, we
praise and worship our God who understands and guides us.

Ever-loving and Faithful God, you are utterly to be trusted!
God’s mercy and love does not discriminate between the
rich and the poor, the powerful or the humble, but instead,
God pours blessings and grace upon all people who respond
to God’s gracious and generous acts of love and compassion.

Awesome God, we come in reverent wonder before our God!
Every day and night, we have been blessed by the wonders
of our God, whose ways are beyond our understanding, but
whose mercy never fails; and whose gentle powers are shown
through God’s unfailing kindness to people who are weak and
in need of strength, encouragement and hope for the future.

Ever-present God, your faithful love endures for ever, and ever.
We give thanks with all our hearts to our Listening and Faithful God. Amen.

A Personal Meditation
Pentecost 2B [Ordinary 10B] or [Proper 5B] 2012
Psalm 138

Just like the Psalmist, I give you thanks, O LORD, with all
my heart; I will sing your praises all my days and nights,
because my life’s experiences show me that God is utterly
to be trusted, and worthy of all praise and honour. God’s
promises are always honoured and are sacred vows made
in honesty and truth. God’s unfailing love and mercy has
followed me all my life and my prayers are always answered.

Creative pause: I will sing your praises all my days and nights.

One of my personal discoveries has been that God does not
discriminate when offering love and mercy to people who rich
and poor; between people who are strong and powerful and
those who are humble or downtrodden; those who always trust
on God or those who suddenly discover the mercy of God!

Creative pause: God’s love does not discriminate between people.

Patient God, you gently lead me along the pathways to life and
joy, despite the troubles and disappointments that human life
brings in its wake; because you pick me up until I can stand on
my feet again, and point me in the right direction in life for me.
I have been blessed by worshipping God in many places, and
with many different people, yet each of these people tell the same
story – that God’s faithful love endures forever, and is totally
trustworthy, and so I now, I praise and honour your holy name.

Creative pause: You pick me up until I can stand on my feet again.
